Introducing: Web3 Smash Bros
Happy Sunday! In this version of Web3 Profiles, we’re going to discuss a new battleground for your favorite NFTs.
The Profile Basics
Project Name:
Galaxy Fight Club
Industry:
Web3 - Play to Earn
Floor Price:
0.75 ETH
Break It Down for Me
The Problem:
Play-to-earn has taken off across web3 but many of the existing platforms either are a closed world without integration with other NFT projects (for example,
Axie Infinity
) or are open worlds that involve many different communities but are less oriented towards gameplay (for example,
Decentraland
).
The Solution:
Galaxy Fight Club brings various NFT communities together to its platform for a clear, defined use case in its play-to-earn fighting game. Unlike in the case of open worlds, in this case users don’t come to the platform to buy land or to develop games themselves--users come to battle their NFTs and earn token rewards.
Core Users:
Users currently include web3 gamers and NFT collectors of partnered projects, which will expand as GFC continues to partner with more projects. Users can also participate by purchasing a Galaxy Fighter NFT on Opensea.
Walk Me Through It:
Galaxy Fight Club is the first cross-IP play to earn PvP game. The platform integrates IP through partnerships with various NFT communities including CyberKongz, Bored Apes Yacht Club, Cryptopunks, Wicked Craniums, and an increasing selection of projects, and brings these characters to life via dynamic form as fighters on the battlefield in the metaverse. To play, one must own an NFT from a partnered project or a Galaxy Fighter.
The game offers multiple different kinds of battles including one-on-one individual battles, 3 versus 3 team team battles and 12 person deathmatches, all for token rewards on the platform.
Fighting abilities and attributes are determined by a combination between the skill level of the user, the rarity of the NFT being used (which are broken down into tiers of rarity), and the weapon of choice (also an NFT
).
Show Me the Money
Currently:
Users are rewarded for winning battles with the native currency on the platform, GCOIN (which
recently
had its initial decentralized exchange offering). The team makes money as the token accrues value, as it holds a percentage of the currency supply.
Be Wary
Where to be wary for Galaxy Fight Club:
As more players leverage interoperability across projects by forming partnerships throughout the web3 space like Galaxy Fight Club has done, will Galaxy Fight Club remain the go-to platform for gamers who want to use their NFTs to battle with friends? It is definitely the first mover but in the longer-term this is uncertain.
Just as important, as strong and well-capitalized NFT communities expand, many of them are developing and implementing games for their own community, such as in the case of Bored Apes. Will this result in web3 members becoming more insular and spending more time with their fellow community members in exclusive “Bored Apes only” games? Will there be a preference towards the creativity and novelty involved in open-worlds such as Decentraland? In all likelihood this will vary from person to person but it will be fascinating to see what the typical web3 gamer preferences are--what does one prioritize between earning potential, gameplay, community?
Now Get Excited
Galaxy Fight Club is exciting because it exemplifies the collaborative nature of web3, where multiple projects form mutually beneficial partnerships and provide utility cases for their own NFT collectors.
Secondly, the competitive and interactive nature of Galaxy Fight Club team battles lends itself to the development of a strong social community. The strongest, most passionate, and vocal communities in web3 tend to experience a good deal of success; involving some of the top brands in the space certainly doesn’t hurt in jumpstarting community-building that will have a large influence on the project’s ability to succeed. There is huge potential for a platform to provide both top-notch gameplay and top economic incentive rewards relative to the rest of the web3 space.
Finally, I’m excited about Galaxy Fight Club’s potential for expansion by:
The product - Different arenas, battlefields, and maps as NFTs that users can own and participate in passive revenue through hosting battles. Down the line, there is the possibility of VR implementation which would enable another level of immersive gameplay, teamwork, and interaction.
The target user market - Beyond expansion of the current list of partnerships, scholar programs (like in the case of YGG) could help include a target market to participate and widen user demographics.
Revenue generation - Future NFT sales to include arenas and venues. Also the implementation of eSports tournaments, streaming, and live events with competitions between different NFT brands.
And that’s a wrap!
